No, absolutely not! You can bring as much foreign money as you want. Although: amounts higher than 4000 Euro have to be declared at customs, when entering the country.
How are the living costs in Bulgaria?
The low living costs are one of the main reasons for people coming to Bulgaria? The prices in the supermarkets are about 60 70 percent below western European levels and a dinner for four, including wine and Brandy will cost about 15 Pounds(25 Euro).- What facilities can I expect to be available?
Bulgaria is a very quickly developing country. You probably can compare it to Spain in the eighties. And the progress made every year is staggering. Nowadays there are already English speaking schools and nurseries. Telephone and Internet access is available in the smallest village; mobile-phone coverage is 100 %. The public transport is well maintained and cheap. And due to the growing demand over the last few years, the supermarkets are offering nowadays almost all western products.
Can I play Golf in Bulgaria?
Yes there are already golf-courses in Bulgaria and the number of them will grow considerably over the next few years. At the moment we have 4 golf-courses already up and running, 5 more are actually in the process of being built and 8 more are already projected. Many more are in planning stages. Golf will be a big part of the tourism future of Bulgaria.- How safe is Bulgaria?
Actually it is more likely to become the victim of a crime in the UK, than in Bulgaria. Street crime is extremely rare, but like everywhere else in the world, always be aware of your surroundings. Speaking in general: Bulgaria is a law abiding, trouble free and peaceful country.

This depends very much on the type of property you want to buy. On average the buying-process will be somewhere between 2 and 5 weeks. - Can foreigners buy property without restrictions?
Basically Yes! But according to the Bulgarian constitution, foreigners are not allowed to buy and own land. If a foreign national wants to own land, he has to set up a limited company, which is allowed to purchase land. But dont worry this sounds a lot more complicated as it actually is. This is a very common and usual procedure and your legal adviser will guide you through it in a heartbeat.
Do I need to set up a company for buying an apartment?
No! There is no land attached to an apartment, therefore it can be bought from everybody at any time, without restrictions.- Do I need a lawyer?
This is completely up to you! The only legal person you NEED is the notary at the end, when signing the deeds. But we strongly recommend that you get an English speaking lawyer! - What about taxes and fees?
As usual, there is a VAT. This is 20 % in Bulgaria, but it is most of the time already included in the price. If you are not certain just ask! All other taxes and fees are different from case to case. A lawyer or a tax-advisor will explain you everything in detail what is necessary for your case.
