Do I need a Visa to visit Mexico?
If you are a citizen of a European country, you do not need a Visa. A more than six months valid passport is sufficient. Is living inexpensive in Mexico?
This question is not easy to answer. The costs of living in Mexico depend very much on you personally. In general you can say that the basic necessities are cheaper – if you buy them in normal supermarkets or on the market where the Mexicans are buying as well.
Eating out is available from 10 Euros for 4 people up to more than a 100 Euros – it depends on you which restaurant you choose.
The best answer to this question is: if you live your life “Mexican Style”, your life will be a lot less expensive than in Europe or the USA. If you insist of living your life in a secluded resort, amongst other foreigners and buy only the imported goods you know from back home, you will end up with the same living costs than back home.- What facilities can I expect to be available in Mexico?
Mexico is on the way, to become a modern country, but is not there yet. Modern facilities like telephone or internet are readily available in the bigger cities and towns and in the resort specialising on tourism and expats. If you go into the “rural” areas, well, it gets really “rural”.
International schools are available, set up and run by expats. Mostly in areas where there is a majority of foreigners. The medical care in Mexico is normally free at the point of delivery, but it does not have the same standard as you are used to from Europe or the USA. To take on a private insurance is highly recommended.
And one additional information: Life in Mexico is paced “slower” than in Europe or the USA. This means, if you have an appointment with you pool-cleaner or your gardener at one p.m., it means you will see him between one and three p.m.
